For a second field trip, students from all the sustainable sections gathered at the UN to hear various lectures based on sustainability and
June is a high school friend of my suite mate Amma Grace who came to visit her over the long President’s day weekend. Even though she sat through a 4-and-a-half-hour bus ride to get from Cornell to NYC, she doesn’t seem to have brought much with her and packed very lightly in her backpack. Although she probably packed a lot more in her suitcase to stow under the bus, she didn’t really bring much with her to do while she was on her ride to the city. It looks like she only brought what she knew would be essential for her trip.
Everything about June is so bright, fun, and innocent. She seems to really enjoy the color pastel pink and keeping everything neat and organized. From the first impression, she seems to be drawn to things that are cute and cares how every item goes together. I think she does pay attention to selecting things that match with her style and items that will correlate together well.
Even the couple of books she carried around with her seemed to match well with the rest of her items she carried around with her. Her aesthetic reminds me of the cute Asian style that is often playful, whimsical, and minimal. The only bright object that really seems to stand out of all her objects is a creamsicle orange color wallet and the backpack itself which is an interesting orange red shade. Every item also seems to be untouched and kept pretty clean without any wear or tears.
Another thing that leads me to believe about her concern for how things are packaged is that when I asked what she kept in a little brown pouch with pink drawstrings, she mentioned it was just her lactose pills. Usually, if people carry around medicine with them, I feel like most might just toss the bottle straight into their bag, but she concealed the pills in a way that make them look nice and put together.
A few things out of her pack interested me in particular. First, she seems to be concerned with how cold it has been this winter and how low the temperature might dry out her skin as she has been carrying around two lip balms and hand lotion. Although I don’t think she particularly cares for makeup as the only product she carries is one lipstick that seems to be a very light shade of pink that is also very sheer and moisturizing.
She is also carrying a keychain with keys possibly for her dorm on them, but not her school ID as she probably thought they were unnecessary and just left them back at her college. This is probably normal for her since living in a more rural college, she probably can go through campus without presenting her ID. But to me, it is strange since you need your student ID at The New School if you want to get into any of the buildings around school or even back into my dorm.
In comparison to me who tends to just shove things into my bag last minute and not really think about what I am carrying until I realize how heavy my bag is getting, I think they way June packed seems to be very efficient and a nice way of packing. Nothing in here seems to be easily disposable or something that she would just toss away. She maintains and cares for all of her personal belongings she carries around with her.
