Last week we discussed what market segmentation is. For this assignment I found an article that compares and contrasts what a good and
Janice Chan of Starwood Hotels makes a very clear case for apps versus mobile sites. Do you agree with her? Why or why not? How would you qualify her approach to apps? Could you see reasons to disagree with her approach? Explain.
I agree with Janice that mobile apps are important for a company. I think a good app could set a more lasting impression on a consumer rather than just a mobile site. This form of technology allows more loyal customers to connect with a company more often and easily grab their information when shopping for something. I think mobile apps are great for existing customers who have already shopped with you before. Mobile sites are still just as important. Companies should still focus on building up their mobile site to target people searching on the mobile through search engines.
Apple Pay: killer app or not? In a very concise fashion, tell us your opinion.
I think the Apple Pay is a great idea. Consumer’s are always looking for convenience of shopping and I think that Apple found a way to challenge the problem of spending less time at the register. I think people are definitely untrusting of it because they are afraid of their personal information getting leaked out. Maybe Apply could have began their app with just allowing the consumer to input their gift cards first. Once people knew they could trust the system with a card that holds less information than their actual credit cards they might incrementally begin trusting the system. Apple should have began their product with a test to prove they are reliable before they ask their customers to take such a big risk like registering their credit cards through Apple Pay.
